What are Connectors?
Connectors give Buildify's AI access to other tools you already use. Once a connector is set up, you can ask for work that involves that tool — pulling in real information, or sending something out — instead of copying and pasting between tabs.
For example, with Slack connected you can ask Buildify to summarise what was discussed in a channel this week, or post an update to your team.
The two steps
This is the part people most often get stuck on. Setting up a connector takes two separate steps, in two different places:
- Connect it once in your settings. This is where you sign in to the other service, or paste in a key. You only do this once per service.
- Turn it on for the project. Connecting doesn't automatically give every project access — you choose which projects can use which connectors.
There are two places to do the second step:
- When creating a project — the Connectors button sits next to the prompt box on your dashboard. Switch on what the new project should have before you describe it
- In an existing project — the Connectors button sits next to the chat box. Switch connectors on or off at any time
If you've connected something and the AI still says it can't reach it, step 2 is almost always the reason. Click the Connectors button next to the chat box and check the switch is on.
The three kinds
The Connectors panel has three tabs:
- Apps — services Buildify has built a ready-made connection for. You sign in with your normal account and Buildify handles the rest. See Connecting Slack
- Custom API — connect any service that offers an API, either from a shortlist of common ones or by filling in the details yourself
- Custom MCP — connect an MCP server, a more technical way of giving the AI a set of tools
Apps are the simplest and need no technical knowledge. The other two are covered in Custom Connectors.
The Apps tab is being rolled out gradually, so you may see only some of the apps mentioned in these docs — or only Slack. More are being added over time.
Opening your connectors
Click your avatar → Settings → Connectors.
You'll see the three tabs described above. Anything you connect here belongs to you and is available to your personal projects.
Personal and Company connectors
Connectors exist in two separate places, and they don't mix:
- Personal connectors — set up under your avatar → Settings → Connectors. Yours alone
- Company connectors — set up in Company Settings → Connectors. Shared with everyone in that Company
If you work in both a personal and a Company account, a connector you added personally won't appear in Company projects, and the other way round. Set it up in whichever place the projects live.
Inside a Company, only members with permission to configure connectors can add or remove them — see Team Members and Roles.
What the AI can do with a connector
Once a connector is turned on for a project, just ask for what you want in plain language. You don't need to name the connector or use any special syntax — the AI knows which tools it has and picks the right one.
The AI can only do what the connection itself allows. A connector set up to read information can't change anything; one connected with permission to post can.
A connector gives the AI real access to a real account. If you connect a tool that can send messages, change records, or spend money, the AI can do those things when you ask it to. Connect the accounts you're comfortable with, and prefer read-only access where the service offers it.
