Writing Good Prompts

The quality of what Buildify generates depends heavily on how clearly you describe what you want. You don't need to be technical — but the more specific you are, the better the result.

The basics

A good prompt answers these questions:

  • What is this project? (a landing page, a portfolio, a pitch deck, etc.)
  • Who is it for? (potential customers, investors, internal team, etc.)
  • What should it do or include? (key sections, features, content)
  • What tone or style? (minimal, bold, professional, playful, etc.)

Example: vague vs. specific

Vague prompt:

Make me a website

Specific prompt:

Create a landing page for a B2B SaaS product that helps small businesses manage invoices. The page should have a hero section with a headline and CTA button, a features section with three key benefits, pricing tiers, and a footer. Use a clean, professional design with a dark blue color scheme.

The second prompt gives the AI enough context to make good decisions on your behalf.

Tips for better results

Describe the end result, not the steps. Say what you want the finished product to look like or do, not a list of technical instructions.

Include your audience. Knowing who the project is for helps the AI choose the right tone, complexity level, and structure.

Mention key sections or features. If your website needs a pricing table, or your doc needs a troubleshooting section — say so upfront.

Reference styles or examples. Phrases like "similar to Stripe's website" or "minimal like Apple's design" give useful visual direction.

Don't worry about being perfect. Your first prompt creates a starting point. You can refine anything through follow-up conversation after the project is created.

Uploading files with your prompt

You can attach files when creating a project to give the AI additional context:

  • Images — Share a logo, screenshot, or design mockup for the AI to reference
  • Documents — Provide existing content, outlines, or specs the AI should work from

Drag and drop a file into the prompt area, or use the upload button.

Dictating instead of typing

If it's easier to say your prompt out loud, click the Dictate button next to the send button and Buildify will transcribe it into the prompt box. See Using Voice Input.

Iterating after creation

Your initial prompt doesn't lock in anything. Once the project is created, you can continue chatting with the AI to:

  • Change the design or layout
  • Add new sections or pages
  • Update the copy or content
  • Fix anything that didn't come out right

Think of the first prompt as your kickoff — the real work happens in the conversation that follows.
