Creating a Doc Project

Docs projects let you create professional documentation, guides, and knowledge bases using AI. Whether you're writing a product guide, an internal SOP, or a public FAQ — Buildify can generate the structure and content for you, then let you refine it.

Getting started

  1. From the dashboard, select Docs as your project type
  2. Choose a category if one fits your use case (Product documentation, Onboarding guide, FAQ, etc.)
  3. Describe what your doc should cover in the prompt field
  4. Click create

Example prompt:

Create a user onboarding guide for a project management app called Taskflow. It should cover how to create an account, set up a workspace, invite teammates, and create your first project. Keep the tone friendly and beginner-friendly.

The AI will generate an initial document with headers, sections, and content based on your description.

What makes a good doc prompt

The more context you provide, the better the output:

  • Topic and purpose — What is this document for? Who will read it?
  • Key sections — List the main topics you want covered
  • Tone — Formal, conversational, technical, beginner-friendly?
  • Length — Rough guide, comprehensive reference, or something in between?

Doc templates and categories

Buildify offers starting templates for common doc types:

  • Product — Product documentation, feature references, how-to guides
  • Startup Strategy — Business plans, go-to-market documents, positioning briefs
  • Marketing — Campaign briefs, content guidelines, brand documentation
  • Sales — Sales playbooks, outreach templates, pitch documents
  • Operations — SOPs, internal handbooks, process documentation
  • Investor — Pitch memos, investor updates, due diligence materials
  • Research — Reports, findings summaries, analysis documents

Selecting a category helps the AI structure your document appropriately from the start.

After creation

Once your doc is generated, you can:

  • Continue chatting with the AI to expand, edit, or restructure sections
  • Open the editor directly to make manual changes
  • Add the doc to a knowledge base for reference in other projects
